During the very last Ice Age, Finland was completely covered with a thick layer of hard, crystalline ice.
When that thick sheet of ice melted and traveled away about 10,000 or so years ago, it left gashes in the surface of Finland that are now home to lakes, rivers and fresh streams.
Just as the Vikings traveled by water, you can do the same in Finland.
